There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that features many conveniences in addition to the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
