There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, contains 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that highlights numerous comforts on top of the gambling den, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
